Southern State's Climate Difficulties

Meanwhile, around one thousand energy customers in the southern state also encountered energy failures after Melbourne recorded its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services received nearly 600 calls for help across the region, mainly for property damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

Most Impacted Regions

  • Hoppers Crossing - various rescue reports
  • Wyndham region - over 175 help reports

During the peak on the previous day, over 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along significant areas of eastern Queensland this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity expected across different parts of both states.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.

This alert comes after past events where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
