RAF Typhoon jets have conducted a mission with French aircraft in a coordinated attack against an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory operated by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the UK's MoD.

The location, located using surveillance, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was located in mountains just north of Palmyra in central Syria.

"Our fighter planes utilized laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a number of entry passages leading to the depot... early reports indicate the objective was successfully hit," officials stated.

There was no sign of any harm to civilians in the attack on Saturday evening and all the aircraft made a safe return, the defence officials confirmed.

The Typhoon fighters were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.

Daesh - alternatively referred to as Daesh - imposed jihadist rule over large swathes of Iraq and Syria until 2019.

"This action shows our UK leadership, and resolve to operate in unison with our partners, to stamp out any revival of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the area," UK Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary said.

British military aircraft have conducted overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of IS subsequent to its defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.

"I extend gratitude to all the members of our armed forces involved in this strike for their professionalism and their courage," he commented. "They were part of thousands of UK service members on duty over the festive period. This operation, to eliminate terrorist threats who pose a risk to our way of life, demonstrates how our armed forces are prepared to act, throughout the year, ensuring Britain's security at home and influential overseas."

During December, the American forces executed what it called a "large-scale strike" against Islamic State objectives in the country, subsequent to an attack claimed the lives of two US servicemembers and a civilian interpreter in the Palmyra area.

The U.N. reports IS still boasts between 5,000 and 7,000 combatants in Syria and Iraq.
